Location, Location, Location...

Our location, here in southern Catalunya, is ideal as a tranquil base to explore the area and its many varied activities.

From here you could go birdwatching in the Els Ports mountains, only a few minutes away, where you can see Bonelli’s Eagles and Griffon Vultures. The Ebro Delta, a birdwatchers paradise, is home to egrets and flamingos and is an important site for migratory birds.

We can arrange professionally guided walks in the area , of varying lengths and levels of difficulty, or simply explore on your own.

We can also take you on wine tours of the Terra Alta region.

Bodega El Pinell1

The small village of Aldover is within walking distance. The bars and shops here can supply all your day to day needs. The lively town of Tortosa, only a 10minute drive away, has all the major supermarkets, banks, bars and restaurants and a large indoor market. This historic town is overlooked by the Castle La Suda, dating from the 10th century, and the nearby Santa Maria Cathedral. Wander through the streets admiring the Gothic and Renaissance buildings,  and the Jewish quarter which dates from the 6th century is well worth a visit. The town was also a major site of conflict in the Spanish Civil War.

Golfing at the challenging Bonmont Golf course is 40 minutes drive

The historic Roman town of Tarragona is 60 minutes away.

Horta St Joan where Picasso lived and worked for a while is 60 minutes away

Barcelona is only two hours on a very reasonably priced train, so within easy reach for a day trip, as is Valencia.

Or simply chill out and explore the local villages at your leisure, many of which specialise in their own local crafts such as pottery and basket weaving. You are sure to find a local Fiesta taking place somewhere. The Spanish don’t need much excuse to party!!

Slightly further afield is some of Spains best rock climbing. Climbs at Margalef, Monsant and the Sierra De Prades, only 50 minutes drive away, are the best in the area and well documented and securely bolted.

Aldover Bulls

Sample some of the excellent wines of this little known region and enjoy some Catalan cuisine for lunch, in a local restaurant. Add some sightseeing and maybe another bodega to complete a thoroughly enjoyable day out without having to drink and drive.

Fishing is one of the major attractions of the area. The River Ebro is famous worldwide for its carp and cat fishing. If you are into fishing this is the place to be! A walk through the village of Aldover will bring you to the river where you can fish from the banks. There are also plenty of boats for hire, in the area, with advise from the experts as to where the best swims are.

Via Verde

Cycling. Hire one of our new mountain bikes and set off along the Via Verde, a cycle track converted from an old railway line, which runs through the village of Aldover. Eastward, towards the historic town of Tortosa (8kms) and onward towards the Ebro Delta, or westward along the scenic valley of the Ebro valley towards the mountains.

Horse riding can be arranged locally with either lessons for beginners or excursions for the more confident. Ride through the scented orange groves or into the mountains for a great day out.
